Tī Kōuka | Sustainability Strategic Framework 2022 - 2030
Tī Kōuka is the second iteration of the Sustainability Strategic Framework.
While building on the progress already made, Ti Kōuka provides direction for our sustainability transition through to 2030, in what the United Nations refers to as our decade of action.
This framework is firmly placed in Aotearoa, and approaches the challenges and opportunities of a sustainability transition through a bi-cultural and Tiriti-based lens.
This acknowledges the significant value of mātauraka Māori in creating a more sustainable future.
Tī Kōuka has been developed in close partnership with the Office of Māori Development (OMD).
Hua Waro Kore | Net Carbon Zero 2030
Climate change is one of the biggest challenges humanity has faced. Under the Paris Agreement we know that we need to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees. We need to play our part in this.
University of Otago has committed to reaching Net Carbon Zero by 2030 by reducing our emissions by more than half and then offsetting the emissions that we have not been able to eliminate.
This is an ambitious goal that will not be achieved easily. So, we have established a Net Carbon Zero Programme that will allow us to meet our targets in a way that befits the university, and ensures we can maintain and improve upon this level of emissions beyond 2030.
